Lesson Learned by SailorChibi
Summary: Sherlock is willing to accept almost any case. When he’s approached by fellow student John Watson and asked to investigate Harry Watson’s “new friends”, he never expected how this much one case could change.

Originality – 8/10 – A very interesting twist on the punklock theme! In this casefic, Sherlock actually disguises as a punk in order to investigate a group of teens that Harry Watson has gotten involved in – at John’s request, of course. I loved how it was still very true to Sherlock, and loved how, in the end, he got called out for still being so posh.
Strength of Writing – 10/10 – SailorChibi is notable for being an excellent writer, and Lesson Learned takes no exception. Well written and paced!
Plot – 7/10 – A good, but fairly typical casefic with some Sherlock being bold and silly and John bamfing it up and coming to the rescue! While the plot was by no means weak, it was fairly straightforward and relatively predictable.
Characterization – 9/10 – I felt that both Sherlock and John were on. Sherlock was distinctly Sherlock, particularly in his interactions with Mycroft, and John as a teen was a delight – mild mannered but incredibly loyal, and willing to take a man (or door) down to get to Sherlock and his sister. Their interactions were equal parts friendly and tetchy, which is true to both characters in the canon. Harry was even better than I could have ever expected – tough, more than a little ungrateful, but naïve and funny to boot.
Personal Reaction – 8/10 – Awww and awesome. An all-around solid and enjoyable story with good writing and a great take on the theme. I loved how there were implications of development and growth in both John and Sherlock, and laughed out loud when Harry shamelessly called Sherlock out on the flaws in his disguise. I was curious about the Moriarty mentions, and would have loved to see more about the group Harry was falling in with.
Originality - 8/10 - Even though I’ve read case fics before, I thought the protective!John element made this seem like a brand-new idea. Harry’s inclusion also added a lil somethin’ extra.
Strength of Writing - 8/10 - We all know SailorChibi is a talented author, so this goes without saying. I wouldn’t say there was anything glaringly amazing in this, but it also was notably above average.
Plot - 6/10 - I docked points on this because it really bothered me that Sherlock made such an amateur mistake. I liked the case fic and the growing relationship between John and Sherlock, but it wasn’t anything I hadn’t read before. I did enjoy the concept, though.
Characterisation - 7/10 - I didn’t have any issues with this, beyond the above-stated mistake on Sherlock’s part. I really loved John in this, especially in relation to his sister.
Personal Reaction - 8/10 - This fic grew on me. The first time I read it, it didn’t leave much of an impression, but then every subsequent reading made me realise more and more how good it is.
